Plant-Based Chocolate Cake

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp white vinegar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a 9-inch cake pan with vegan butter or cooking spray.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the almond milk, vegetable oil, white vinegar, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  • Gradually add the hot water to the mixture and continue mixing until the batter is smooth and well combined.
  • Fold in the vegan chocolate chips (if using).
  • Pour the batter into the greased cake pan and smooth out the surface with a spatula.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before removing and slicing.
  • Serve the cake with your favorite plant-based frosting, fresh fruit, or chopped nuts.
